It’s getting harder for many people to discern what is AI content and what's made by human creators. AI is everywhere and while our relationships with it may be complicated and nuanced, human creators of all forms of art, music, photography, video, writing, and more need a way to set our work apart from AI content. Many of us want to seek out human creators, but in a sea of AI, discernment becomes more difficult and not all platforms have policies regarding AI labeling.  While AI can turn out content quickly to fill the internet’s feeds and shopping carts, human creations take time, skills built over a lifetime, and heart. Human creations not only have value to the people who enjoy seeing and owning them, but they add value to the lives of the humans that create as well.
I worked on sketches and concepts in Procreate. While working on the design for this badge, I realized the abbreviation for human intelligence is Hi, as in, “Hi, I’m human, I made this!” The idea of an upraised or waving hand was also inspired by the first human signatures, handprints on cave walls that were made with red ochre paint. That's why I picked a shade of red ochre for the color of the badge, incidentally, it’s also the color of the human heart, the heart we put into everything we create!
Here's a couple examples of how people can use the badge. People are using it for first pic of a carousel post, flashing it for one or two seconds at the beginning of a short form video on Instagram, Tiktok, or YouTube. They use it on Pinterest posts. I would love to see them on YouTube thumbnails, podcast covers, and to tell everyone music is human created on Bandcamp or CD Baby. People can also add it to their shop banner or listings. Just a few ideas.
Below is from a social media post I made with a combination of Canva and Photoshop, I made both thumbnails and channel logos and added titles and time-stamps to make it look like the actual YouTube feed.
I created this post to highlighting how the badge can help with the problem that we're seeing on YouTube and viewers not knowing how to decern human created videos from AI videos. Many people would prefer to support human video creators but have difficulty knowing before they click. Some human YouTube creators have had their channels shut down by YouTube because they were reported as being AI even when they were not, an especially big problem for stop motion animators. Some have had their channels restored after showing their process, but it continues to be a problem.
